We are The Little Minimalists: Melanie & Andrea and our family of eight. Our minimalist journey began in 2016. Back then, we didn’t know minimalism was a thing, and we certainly didn’t know it had a name.

We were just a family who was sick of spending so much time looking after our stuff. Finally, freedom called, and we were ready to answer the call. We wanted to be free to spend our time the way we would like to: to travel, to play, and to stop being trapped by our possessions.
After that, we rolled up our sleeves and began digging out of the mountain of stuff we had made for ourselves. By 2017, we had a pretty good thing going, and had learned a lot along the way. We started to discover there were other like-minded people out there, too. One night, we discovered The Minimalists. Shortly after, we discovered the KonMari method.
As we continued our journey, we discovered other YouTubers sharing their journeys. We were motivated by their stories, and we wanted to share ours. Our mission is not to gain anything. We want to pay it forward.
Through all of this, we hope we can help motivate you. May you be encouraged. Along the way, may we spur you on in your own journey towards freedom, and be there to cheer you on to the finish line.
What you’ll find here
Practical, family-tested guides, grouped into five topics:
- Minimalism with kids: toys, clothes, teens, and getting everyone on board
- Decluttering: where to start, room by room, moving, and sentimental things
- Minimalist travel: packing light as a big family, road trips and RV life
- Minimalist holidays: Christmas, birthdays and clutter-free gifts
- Buy less: stopping impulse buys before they become clutter
Some posts were written by our kids, in their own words. We’ve kept their voices, because a teenager explaining why they decided to own less says it better than we could.

Our promise to you
- When we share a story, it’s ours. When we haven’t lived something, we say so and give you the practical steps instead.
- We’ll never tell you there’s one right way to do this. Minimalism looks different in every family.
- We keep our family’s privacy. You won’t find our home town or our kids’ details here.
